Why Choose Cloth?
That is Easy! There are three reasons why parents normally choose cloth...
Cloth is Better for Baby:
-
Cloth is made of soft, comfortable fabric and is gentle to the touch on baby's sensitive skin. Disposables are made of paper and plastic, a decision that should only be made at the supermarket!
-
Cloth diapers contain no harsh chemicals, whereas disposables contain chemicals such as sodium polyacrylate(a chemical banned from tampons due to its link to toxic shock), and dioxin (a carcinogen). Our skin is the largest organ in our body and it acts as a screen door.
- The diaper rash rate has increased significantly over the years, in correlation with the increased use of disposable diapers. The super-absorbent chemicals in disposable diapers can cause irritation to chemically sensitive skin.
- A study conducted by Anderson Labs in 1999 showed that the toxins emitted by disposable diapers can have 'asthma-like' effects in the airway. They concluded that more research should be done as to the link between asthma and disposable diaper use.
- The use of cloth diapers have been proven in studies to reduce the scrotal temperature in baby boys. Chemicals in disposable diapers cause the temperature to rise, possibly causing later issues with fertility. More studies are being done.
Cloth Diapering is Easier on Your Budget:
-
Cloth diapering is less expensive! Depending on the type of cloth diapering system you choose, you can save up to $2000 from birth to potty, and double or triple that savings by using the diapers on subsequent children.

THAT IS A SAVINGS OF ABOUT $1500 MINIMUM EITHER WAY YOU GO!
Not only can you feel great about the money you will save with cloth, but you can also feel confident that you and your little one are doing your part to help keep our world a beautiful place! The environmental benefits of cloth are many.
Cloth Diapering is Better for the Environment:
-
From birth to potty, your child will go through between 7000-9000 diapers! That is one ton of trash! With cloth diapers you are able to reuse them again and again saving one ton of solid waste from entering our landfills.
-
It is estimated that it takes between 200-500 years for disposables to decompose.
-
The natural resources spent on producing the number of disposables that one child would use from birth to potty is approximately; 20 trees, 60 pounds of chlorine, and 420 gallons of petroleum.
-
When diapering with disposables one should dispose of poop in the toilet, most people do not instead they wrap it up in the diaper and throw it away. This fecal material is then essentially wrapped in paper and plastic and sitting in a landfill. This allows the diaper to release pollutants into the soil.
-
Volitile Organic Compounds are released in the production and use of disposable diapers. VOCs can cause severe health problems in the men and women producing the disposable diapers.
-
A study conducted by the Energy Answers Corporation (which was also the first large scale study of diapering not funded be the disposable industry) concluded that compared to reusable diapers, throw-aways generate 7 times more solid waste when discarded and 3 times more waste in the manufacturing process. Also, it concluded that the effluents from the plastic, pulp, and paper industries are far more hazardous than those from the cotton-growing and manufacturing processes.
-
Disposable diapers are the 3rd largest consumer item in landfills
